RE: 15 days in a 16 foot Fun Finder

A bed and bath on wheels, that about describes it. We have a 16 foot Fund Finder, unfortunately it was build on a Monday, left until it was finished on a Friday, for those who know what I mean. Two things resulted since we got it. One we love camping, two wrong choice of trailer.
My wife refuses to shower in the shower/toilet, it's too small and not very usable, maybe for one person it might be fine. If it's all a person has then it's fine but for serious rv'ing I'd say no.
Glad to see you had a good time and saw so much, it's great to get out there. We'll go again soon when we get our Dodge Ram 1500 2000 transmission fixed or repaired. The truck has 92,000 miles and the last trip to Arches caused several problems.

RE: Another RV accident

That heap of wreckage leaves one to believe that the human toll is going to be very bad. So sad indeed.

RE: Camping cat - where to ride?

30 minutes doesn't sound too long but having a medical condition might make me thing twice. How is he at home, alone for that long? It's a judgment call only you can make.

RE: Breakdown

Thank you all for the valuable information, we made it home and I backed in the trailer tonight. I'm definately going to check on the ERS and Good Sam programs. I wish I had internet on the road, I guess that will be on the way soon. I couldn't find a phone book, even at a phone booth, because cell phones have taken over and the phone booths are disappearing. Both my wife and I have cell phones but no book.
It appears that I have some schooling to do before the next trip. When we got to Beverly State Park in Newport it was like getting home. Everyone started talking to us and waving, that's what we like about camping.

Breakdown

We went to Moab, LV, SF, and up the coast when we started to have mechanical problems with our Dodge Ram 1500. The transmission started to slip and finally failed in a Safeway parking lot in Crescent City Oregon. The checkers there gave us the name of a couple of garages and we picked one a couple of blocks away. We spent the night in the trailer at the Safeway being harassed by kids who kept knocking and hitting on the sides and windows of the trailer, making loud noise from cars speakers, yelling at us and the like. It was great trying to sit in there and figure out how we would get the truck and trailer home if the transmission was destroyed. The only way out of the city is by Greyhound bus.
The garage changed the filter and fluid and we made it to Newport Or for the night. We left the following day, Yesterday morning, and by the time we got to Lincoln City there came a whine that got louder and louder from under side. It sounds like the differential or u-joints. It could be the transmission though.
I'm confounded now, what do I do if we are stranded in a small town or place with no services? If we had a Class C or A what then. Do you have to have weeks to spend some where and an endless repair budget?

RE: Seattle to Moab

I think she is watching CNN and drawing conclusions, I looked up the gas prices on line and found no problem but the news on tv is different.

Seattle to Moab

We are about to set off to Moab from Seattle to Yakima, Pendleton, Salt Lake etc.. My wife is concerned that gas will be out or short supplys will leave us stranded. Can anyone give us some information? Should we start out and turn back at the first experience of gas rationing or extremely high prices? We plan to go in one day.
Thanks,
Curt

RE: 20 foot wave to hit coast of Texas near Houston

I was in Houston just after Katrina hit, the hotel were I was staying got a rush of New Orleans citizens. It was incredible to say the least. I had a dinner at a restaurant on Galveston, I hope it is still there, and visited all of the sites and the monument of an arm stretching up skyward to commemorate the 1900 storm.

RE: Recommended Park in Moab

My wife likes the look of Canyonlands for this trip, in the future I would like to spend more time in the surrounding areas and have the disability pass for BLM. Now my wife wants to go on a river rafting, I have a back thats seen better days, shot, is there any easy rafting or is it all white water? I might be waving on the beach goodbye!
We went to Newport Oregon last Spring and had the time of our lives, then we went there, on my wife's recommendation, and stayed in a condo for three days. The picture on the net looked like it was just steps to the beach but in reality it was three flights up, no elevator, and about a hundred plus to the beach. The bottom line here is that Beverly was full and she wanted to go there anyway. The entire trip we had a less than wonderful experience. We both agreed that RV'ing is the only way to go. I like my own bed and we like the camping experience. Before we used a tent and camped only twice since we were married in 1972, I couldn't get her to even try it but once we got the tt and nice Dodge Ram truck she is A-OK. Better later than never in my mind.

RE: Recommended Park in Moab

Thank you all so very much, I can hardly wait now! It will be one of those great trips to remember I'm sure. I've found RV'ing and the people we meet out there to be about the best on the Planet.
Thank you all again,
Curt

Recommended Park in Moab

My Wife and I are going to drive from Seattle to Moab in a few weeks, all of the sites I found on the web look very nice, can anyone help us choose an RV Park there, one that they believe is the best choice from experience in the area?
I am hoping to Visit Arches and would like to go to Monument Valley if it isn't too far away. This is one area of the country that I've been looking forward to seeing for a long time. I photograph with old large format view cameras and film.
Thank you,
Curt

RE: Generators

We have the Honda generator and love it. When the power went out last Winter, it seldom goes out here, I ran a line from the garage, to the house for our Pellet stove and some light. We were the only ones with electricity in the neighborhood, a real bonus for the off season at home.
Observe all exhaust safety for any unit you connect and choose the location of the generator carefully and use a detector.

We have to start our cook top with a match or lighter too, why aren't they all lit with an internal sparker like on a bbq?

RE: Mouse Hunting

It's true, I've seen them pass though a space that my finger couldn't poke into. They are amazing and are some times hard to get rid of. They need food so get every grain of food out then catch or exterminate. If there is one there will be more.
